Description
In 1966, amidst the desolate nitrate salt flats of Chile’s Atacama Desert, life for Medardo, Maria Magnolia, and their four children revolves around the harsh realities of saltpetre mining, far removed from Hollywood’s glamour. Their routine of cinema visits on Sundays is shattered by tragedy, prompting María Magnolia to seek more than mere hardship. Her allure captivates Nansen, the mine’s respected administrator, leading her to depart their town. Despite financial constraints, Medardo sends his daughter, gifted in recounting films like Spartacus and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, alone to the movies weekly. Her talent spreads, captivating their community with tales of drama, humor, romance, and bravery, offering solace amidst transformative times in their country.
